Ukrainian Sustainable Development Program

Period: 2004 - 2005




Objectives



This project is aiming at developing national capacities for reaching the nationalized and localized MDGs and for putting Agenda 21 and WSSD outcomes into practice. With political decentralization in Ukraine there is tremendous need for capacity development at the national, as well as local level. The project will enhance and support national leadership and ownership of the Ukrainian Sustainable Development Program applying a pilot methodology for sustainable local development.

Activities



During the first phase critical demonstration, capacity development, awareness rising, and support to sustainable development at local level in two pilot cities will be provided.
Within the second phase sensitization, exploration and building of a critical mass of partnerships around a common goal, and preparation of a full fledge program for sustainable development in Ukraine will be accomplished. The capacity of national and local development actors and decision makers will be enhanced and strengthened to ensure effective and sustainable implementation of the program; Local Agenda 21 methodology will be tested in 5 cities.
During the third phase the Ukrainian Sustainable Development program will be implemented.
