Gender in BiH, Serbia and Montenegro


The United Nations Development Programme has initiated a regional cooperation project in collaboration with the Canadian government to help BiH, Serbia and Montenegro to attain gender equality.

The regional Gender Project is designed to further develop existing gender equality legislation and institutions in the region.

Gender-promoting institutions in BiH, S and CG will play an active role in the management of the project.

The partnership

Canada made a contribution of Can$56.5 million in 2005 for regular resources (which fund UNDP's programmes around the world) and its contribution to supplementary funds (which finance specific activities) grew tenfold from 2000 to 2004, increasing from US$5 million to more than US$50 million.

Gender mainstreaming and Private sector development are two other areas in which Canada has shown a strong comparative advantage.
