GEF biodiversity projects:

Emergency response to the refugee-driven biodiversity crisis in Congo
DR:
On November 10, 1995, in response to an appeal from the government of
Congo DR transmitted to UNDP through the President of the Congo DR,
the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Global Environment Facility
(GEF) authorized in principle up to $250,000 for emergency action to
respond to the urgent and immediate threats to the country's biodiversity.

Rehabilitation of protected areas in Congo DR:
The project will assist DRC in rehabilitating back to basics functioning
of protected areas. It will also initiate the involvement of local communities
in the management of protected areas systems to ensure the more effective
conservation of biodiversity.

National Biodiversity Strategies, Action Plan, and Country Report to
the CBD:
This project will assist the national government to meet its obligations
under the Convention on Biological Diversity.

Clearing house mechanism enabling activity:
This project will assist the national Government to meet its obligations
under the Convention on Biological Diversity.
