"Building the Capable State in Africa" is the theme of the Seventh Africa Governance Forum (AGF), which will take place in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso on 24-26 October 2007. The AGF is a UNDP Regional Bureau for Africa flagship governance programme designed to bring together African countries and their partners to deliberate on governance issues.
The 2007 edition of the AGF is expected to attract representatives of at least 33 African countries the private sector and civil society organizations and media, as well as Africa’s development partners to explore the issues of capacity development for development. A planned Heads of State segment featuring some African leaders will be a highlight of the event.
The Media Dialogue will run parallel to the Forum and will aim to exposing selected African media professionals to both the national and regional personalities working on capacity development and to the debate on building the capable state in Africa. It is hoped that after the Dialogue participating journalists will have developed a good understanding of the capacity development agenda and be able to report more- qualitatively and quantitatively- on capacity development and the challenge of building a capable state in Africa.
