The Seventh Africa Governance Forum (AGF7) will be held in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso from 24-26 October 2007 under the theme, "Building the Capable State in Africa."
Building the capable state is the most compelling development challenge in Africa. As the continent strives to address its political, governance and socio-economic challenges, the task of reinforcing the effectiveness of its systems, institutions and public/civil services is pivotal to the overarching task of delivering development. Africa’s continued capacity challenges therefore underlines the need for deeper reflection on a fresh approach-one that recognizes and gives space to Africa’s leadership in defining and identifying capacity best suited to meeting the critical development needs of the continent.
AGF7 provides the opportunity for expanded dialogue and exchange of views on how Africa can provide that leadership and work in concert with its development partners to put in place actionable and sustainable strategies for building the capable state in Africa.
In welcoming you all to the Seventh Africa Governance Forum, I wish to thank the Governmant of Burkina Faso for offering to host the event and our partners notably UNECA and Africa Development Bank for co-sponsoring the forum.
